They are going to retire soon — and their knowledge will retire with them. Incoming staff expect modern tools. Legacy software from the 1990s has not fundamentally changed — and it shows.

Why open source?
The scientific core is published because publication invites scrutiny. A library that survives scrutiny is stronger proof of substance than any proprietary claim. Laboratories buy a product from a company that stands behind it.
What cannot be published: 30+ years of keeping a laboratory competitive and extending its catchment area to EMEA and beyond — that is not in the repository. It cannot be forked.
